Publications by Research Program

The Institute for Bird Population (Brochure) publishes scientific papers in peer-reveiwed books and journals (including our own journal, Bird Populations). In addition, we produce reports for public land managers that summarize our banding efforts, provide estimates and indices of avian demographic parameters, and document the influence of landscape, climate, and weather on avian demographic parameters.

Publications are grouped according to the following categories:

• The MAPS Program - Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship throughout N. America at more than 500 banding stations.
• Sierra Nevada Research and Conservation Program - helping to conserve avifauna in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
• Avian Inventory Program - collecting baseline information on avian diversity, distribution, and abundance on public lands.
• Neotropical Avian Ecology and Demographics Program - research and monitoring leading to avian conservation in the Neotropics (featuring the MoSI program).
• Burrowing Owl Project - providing a scientific basis for the development of a conservation strategy for this species that is declining in California.
• Bird Populations Journal - a peer-reviewed annual journal of global avian research (available by subscription).
• Other publications - Publications not necessarily associated with a single program.
